Baseball season is a lot like Tulsa musical artist Ben Rector.
ESPN has teamed up with the indie superstar for its 2022 “Give Us Baseball” campaign. Rector’s song “Sunday,” which features Snoop Dogg, serves as ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball anthem for the first half of the season.
ESPN’s “Give Us Baseball” campaign, in its third season, shines a light on the joy of the game. The Rector’s “Sunday” amplifies the joy, according to a press release announcing the partnership.
ESPN’s team up with Rector will continue throughout the season and will include several tracks from his latest album, “The Joy of Music,” released in March.
Rector, by e-mail, answered questions related to the partnership:
What do you think of “Sunday” being chosen for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball? Do you feel like the mood of the song is a good fit?

“That really suits me! We called their team to discuss what they thought and they had a rough cut of the commercial, and honestly, that blew my mind. Typically, songs that end up in commercials are a bit more universal (there aren’t a lot of ads dealing specifically with Sunday), so getting such heavy use of “Sunday” was a really nice surprise.
Are you a baseball fan? If so, do you have a favorite team or favorite baseball story?
“I spent a lot of my formative years on the baseball field as a (pretty average) pitcher, first baseman, and center fielder. I haven’t followed pro baseball as much since then, but I really love the game and I’m excited to be able to do something with ESPN and MLB.
Do you have anything to say about the partnership that continues throughout the season with other tracks?
“They’re still working out some details, but hopefully more of my songs will find their way into ESPN’s baseball coverage this season.”
