Country music artist Adam Hood to perform at Alex City |

Erin P. Hernandez July 9, 2022 2 min read

Country music artist Adam Hood returns home to Alabama later this month for a special concert in Alexander City.

The Opelika native will perform at Russell Crossroads on July 29 and Chuck’s Marina on July 30, promoting his fifth studio album, “Bad Days Better,” recorded at Capricorn Studios in Macon, Georgia. The album features ten songs created in collaboration with members of Blackberry Smoke and Brent Cobb as producer.

For more than two decades, Adam Hood has created music on stage and in the writing room, crafting a southern sound that blends soul, country and American roots music in the same package.

“It’s southern music,” he said. “That’s what he represents: the soul side of southern music, the country side of southern music, the authenticity of southern culture and the way I grew up. One of t shirts that I sell at every concert simply say, “Chansons du Sud” and that’s a good summary of what I do. That’s what I’ve always done.”

Hood has immersed himself in all aspects of the music industry, from frontman to backstage songwriter and now solo artist. It all started in Opelika, just 40 miles from Alexander City.

Raised by working-class parents, Hood began playing shows in his hometown at the age of 16, landing a weekly residency at a local restaurant. He performed there every Friday and Saturday night, filling his set list with songs by John Hiatt, Steve Warner, Hank Williams Jr and Vince Gill.

Hood plays about 100 shows a year and returns to Alabama to perform in Alexander City as part of a special homecoming concert

Today, dozens of artists have recorded Hood’s songs and collaborated with him, including Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Travis Tritt, Riley Green, Whiskey Myers, Anderson East, Frankie Ballard, Josh Abbott Band, Lee Ann Womack and Brent Cobb.

Over the years, Hood’s gigs have continued, not just in Alabama, but across the country. Hood plays about 100 shows a year and now returns to Alabama to perform in the town just “across the lake” from his home.

“This festival is a full event for me,” Hood said. “My father’s family is from the region. I grew up on the lake and spent my younger years playing covers at the rodeo club, so this festival is a special experience. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share my music with the people who live in the area that I love so much.
